Texas based musician, artist, and comedian, Jonathan Stewart joins Esthesis Records for the release of his debut album, To Be A Ghost, scheduled to become available digitally and on cassette October 30, 2020.
Under the pseudonym Jonny Apple’s Seed, Stewart explores the artistic variances of his mind whether it be through sound collages of rap parodies, distorted noise, or ballads about food delivering robots; a quick glance would allude to lighthearted narratives but the breadth of his music harbors a candid look into the multiple lives Stewart leads. Through Jonny Apple’s Seed we are faced with the philosophy to embrace both the light and darkness in our lives.
For his debut, To Be A Ghost (TBAG), Stewart explores the world of drone and ambient music describing the process as a “full unearthing of the decaying mind and the grieving process that follows death’s toll.” TBAG was recorded using a vintage RMI Electra-Piano 300B and built on live improvisations that were layered in real time. The album is dedicated to Stewart’s grandmother who lived with him until her passing; each track brings forward a blissful light of sound that engulfs the listener in a moment within the mind of a man trying to find some understanding of loss.
To Be A Ghost is a fifty minute journey through a darkness that is often sprinkled with an auditory beauty that casts a mindful yet intense silhouette. Stewart leaves us with his interpretation of what To Be A Ghost means to him;
